Franks discusses the police search and a riot following after. Frank heard the riot was because the police thought the Japanese American Citizen League (JACL) man might be an informant. On Labor Day 1942, the Japanese Americans at Santa Anita boarded a train and went to Heart Mountain.

Frank attends a Recruit School for basic training at Camp Shelby. The weather was hot.
